Kingston, NY — Reported in The Daily Freeman by Rick Remsnyder
KINGSTON — The long wait is over for the Kingston High girls soccer team. The Tigers beat Newburgh Free Academy (NFA) 5-0 for their first win over their archrival in five years with a dominating performance at Dietz Stadium on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
“Our girls have been preparing all year for this and they worked hard from start to finish,” Kingston High coach Juan Weissenberg said.
Sophomore Kaydin Oxford started the scoring for Kingston (2-3) with a goal off the post for a 1-0 lead.
Senior Alex Foster and freshman Lexi Sandy each scored goals to give the Tigers a 3-0 halftime lead.
Senior Jaime Lane and junior Kylee Dziomba rounded out the scoring for Kingston with second-half goals to produce the 5-0 outcome for the Tigers, who improved to 1-0 in the league.
Three of Kingston’s goals were assisted by senior captain Eden Riley.
“Having five different scorers just shows how balanced we are as a team,” Weissenberg said. “It is really a team effort and I’m proud of all of them. The job is not done to get to the playoffs and we need to keep improving, but I can’t lie, today felt really good.”
