Huntingdon got its usual tough fight from visiting Penns Valley on Tuesday. The Bearcats had some chances, but it was the Rams finding the net one time and taking a 1-0 victory back home.
The Bearcats (4-4) have lost the last two games and three of four. This was the first loss of the season at Detwiler Field. (3-1)
The way this match played out was frustrating for the Bearcats. Huntingdon is playing well, possessing the ball, and taking some shots. The team is finding it difficult to score goals.
"I think we outplayed them. We're just not breaking through in the attacking third," said Jason Morris. "Hopefully, we'll get the luck of the bounce here sometime."
The Rams (5-3-1) have won three in a row and are 4-0-1 in their last five. They have only outscored opponents 12-8.
Penns Valley stopped Huntingdon 2-0 in last year's District 6-2A quarterfinals. Huntingdon has lost four in a row and is 0-5-1. The last six games with the Rams, scoring only two goals in that span. Huntingdon leases the all-time series 32-19-5.
The first half saw a lot of back-and-forth action with each team getting a few shots on goal. Late in the half, Ajay Kowalski missed on a direct kick.
Penns Valley scored with 16:41 left to play. The Rams took a corner kick, and the ball was perfectly headed past Davien Wise for a 1-0 lead.
Huntingdon did all it could to pressure the goal down the stretch. Kowalski had a shot bounce off the crossbar. The Cats fought in the box for another shot, by were unable to send the match to overtime.
Junior High
The Bearcat boys junior high team lost 7-2 at Penns Valley.
Davey Long scored with an assist from Ben Schonberg. Schonberg notched the second goal. Jon Valle had six saves.
