The Santa Clarita Warriors Advance with a Victory over The Newbury Park Steelers
Newbury Park Steelers 6, Warriors Mighty Mite 26
Valencia, CA — The #3 seeded Santa Clarita Warriors won the coin toss and chose to defer, meaning that the #6 seeded NP Steelers would kick the ball off to the Warriors in the 2nd half. Jace kicked the ball off and one of the NP Steelers picked it up and started running. Three Warriors collided with each other attempting to make the tackle and #9 for NP ran the first play of the game back for a Touchdown.
That was the last that went Newbury Park's way on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors took over after that on both sides of the ball. The Steelers, while being the bigger sized team across the board, were outmatches, outcoached, and outplayed. The Warriors ran 42 plays to NP's 20. The game was in complete control.
After the special teams TD the Warriors followed that up on offense with a 42 yard 12 play drive that took up the majority of the first quarter. Jace Klar punched in the TD for SCV from inside the 2 yard line on a fullback dive. Johnny and Elijah both had huge impact blocks on the play side of the line in the first half.
After the kickoff the Warriors defense was absolutely prepared for anything that the Steelers offense even thought they could do. On the third play of the game, on 3rd and 15, they ran their pass play that we knew they had. The safety, Jaden Hambrick, broke on the ball and high pointed it hauling in the first interception of his playing career! He returned it 15 yards until he was tackled out of bounds. He followed up by telling coach Mike "imma get a pick 6 next time."
Santa Clarita marched down the field on the shoulders of ball carrier Levi Bradshaw where he eventually capitalized on a 25 power. The Steelers took over on offense after a perfect kick by Jace where Jaden got both hands on it running full speed before the ball squirted out. A four and out was followed by a 20 yard toss from Dylan Fruchtman to Levi Bradshaw where unfortunately Bradshaw lost the ball. The Steelers tried a reverse play to their TE and Jace just stripped the ball 6 yards in the backfield and recovered it on the one yard line. The next play the Warriors ran a fullback dive and Jace got the extra yard for his TD.
The Warriors went into halftime up 20-6. The Warriors returned the ball in the second half and on the first play of the drive, behind Roman Knott, Bradshaw broke a 26 power for 47 yards and the TD.
Newbury Park showed some signs of life on offense in the second half, but finished the game with (-8) total yards. SCV ran clock and salted the game away. The Steeler's season is over and the Warriors are on to face Ventura in the semi finals.
A rematch between The Warriors and The Packers is something that both sides had anticipated for a few months now. Santa Clarita is ready to show what Warrior football is all about.
