Cody Penniman Nets 100th Career Point in Wachusett Win Over Grafton

After scoring his 100th Career Point as a Mountaineer, Cody Penniman was named Player of the Game by his teammates.
Westborough, MA — For only the 6th time in the last 25 years, Wachusett has a player that has reached the 100-point milestone. Senior Captain Cody Penniman scored the eventual game-winning goal on a beautiful feed from linemate Ryan Flaherty to join the Century Club. Cody now has 44 goals and 56 assists in his career.
The team went on to beat Grafton 7 - 1 with 12 different players scoring points.
Wachusett jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first period. Sophomore Lucas Brousseau would score the game's first goal wristing home a shot that broke through the goalie's glove. The goal was set up by a nice pass by sophomore defenseman Colin Carlson.
Penniman's 100th point put Wachusett up 2-0. Senior Ryan Flaherty took control of the puck in the neutral zone and sped down the left side. He slid the puck across the front of the net where Cody banged it in at the back post.
Senior Brayden Allaire poked a puck past a Grafton defenseman in the neutral zone and raced in on a breakaway scoring Wachusett's 3rd goal of the night. Linemates Matt Brousseau and Caden Lane were credited with assists.
That line combination would strike again just 14 seconds later as Senior Captain Matt Brousseau scored on a pass out from behind the net. Lane and Allaire dug the puck out down low and earned assists.
After Grafton scored on a 5 on three advantage, Brousseau would score his second goal of the night, finishing a rebound off of a Jake Penniman shot. Wachusett would take a 5-1 lead into the 2nd intermission.
At 3:08 of the 3rd period, Senior Aiden Boyce created a turnover behind Grafton's net on a hard forecheck. He centered the pass to Tucker Watkins who buried it, giving Wachusett a 6-1 advantage.
At 5:05 of the 3rd, junior defenseman Erik Nordahl scored his first career goal as a Mountaineer racing down the right side of the ice and snapping a nice shot to the low left side of the net. Freshman Colby Mills picked up the assist on that goal.
Senior Trevor Staiti got the start in net tonight and stopped 10 of the 11 shots he faced.
The team will enter a tough stretch of its schedule starting on Wednesday night as they host rival Shrewsbury at 8 pm at NorthStar.
