Westborough, MA — Wachusett played its annual rivalry with Shrewsbury on Wednesday night and skated away with a 3-3 tie. The Mountaineers opened the scoring at 5:37 of the first period on a pretty power play goal scored by senior forward Brayden Allaire. Caden Lane and Tucker Watkins picked up assists on the goal. Shrewsbury scored the next two goals of the first period to take a 2-1 advantage before Cody Penniman would tie the game at 2 heading into the first intermission. There was no scoring in the second period, but Wachusett would take the lead at 1:43 of the third period when Lane snapped home a shot of a faceoff. Matt Brousseau earned the assist, winning the draw. Shrewsbury would score a few minutes later to tie the game at 3 and the teams would trade opportunities in the final minues of the period and throughout the 4 on 4 overtime period. In the end, the shots were 28 to 27 in favor of Wachusett. Kevin Shaw had a solid night in net making 24 saves. The team is now 5-1-1 on the season and will host Scituate on Saturday at 5:30 pm at NorthStar.
