Senior Captain Matt Brousseau and Sophomore Defenseman Colin Carlson were both named Player of the Game by their teammates. Matty B had 2 goals while Colin picked up 3 assists.
Tyngsboro, MA — The Mountaineers got off the bus hot this afternoon, scoring 3 goals in each period en route to a 9-2 drubbing of the Grey Ghosts from Westford Academy. This improves Wachusett's recored to 8-1-1 at the official halfway mark of their 20-game schedule.
Caden Lane got things going just 1:31 into the first period on a goal assisted by Colin Carlson. The game would stay 1-0 until the 13:08 mark of the first when Cody Penniman scored assisted by Owen Ambach and Erik Nordahl. Ryan Flaherty would round out the scoring in the first period just 52 seconds later with assists going to Jake Penniman and Travis Laidlaw.
Jake Penniman would open the scoring in the second period extending Wachusett's lead to 4-0 scoring off a faceoff play. Cody Penniman and Ethan Bennett earned assists on the goal. Westford Academy would score a power play goal to pull the score to 4-1 but Brayden Allaire would score 1 minute later extending the lead to 5-1. Bennett picked up his second assist on that goal.
Matt Brousseau would score the 6th Wachusett goal with just 11 seconds left in the period with assists going to Carlson and C. Penniman.
The Mountaineers would again score early in the third period. At 1:54, Junior defenesman Kevin O'Keefe wristed home a shot from the point, extending Wachusett's lead to 7-1. After another power play goal by the Grey Ghosts made the score 7-2, Wachusett would finish strong. At 7:25 Brousseau scored his 2nd of the game with assists going to Laidlaw and C. Penniman. O'Keefe would score his 2nd of the game at 14:00 with Lucas Brousseau and Zach Hoadley earning assists.
The Mountaineers outshot Westford 40 - 10 in the contest. Sophomore goalie Reed LaBaire picked up another win in net making 8 saves in the win
Wachusett will next play on Saturday when they travel to the Breakaway Ice Center in Tewksbury to take on Andover for a 7 pm tilt.
