Worcester , MA — After two snow days with practices canceled, the Mountaineer ice hockey team returned to the rink with a Mid Wach A Conference game against Grafton. Wachusett skated away with a 10-2 win, improving their record to 10-1-1 (4-0-0 in Conference) and clinched a playoff berth in the Division I State Tournament for the 3rd straight season. The Mountaineers scored 3 goals in the first period to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. 1. Ethan Bennett assisted by Vaughn Lane 2. Cody Penniman assisted by V Lane 3. Ryan Flaherty assisted by C Penniman The teams would trade major penalties in the 2nd period and both have 5 minute power plays. Wachusett would score 3 more to take a 6-2 lead into the 2nd intermission. 4. Zach Hoadley assisted by Owen Ambach and Aiden Boyce 5. Caden Lane assisted by Matt Brousseau 6. Travis Laidlaw assisted by C Penniman and R Flaherty Wachusett scored the final 4 goals of the game in the 3rd period to win 10-2. 7. T Laidlaw from C Penniman 8. All three Wachusett goalies each played a period tonight. They combined to stop 8 of 10 Grafton shots in the win. Wachusett will play 3 games in 3 days this weekend. First the annual DCU game against Auburn will be played at 1:30 pm on Saturday. Then a makeup game from 12/23 with North Middlesex will be played on Sunday at 5 pm at the Groton School. Finally, Senior Night will be held Monday night prior to the 7:30 pm tilt with Algonquin.
