Worcester, MA — The DCU Center has been a home away from home in recent years for the Wachusett Ice Hockey Team. Yesterday, with a 7-3 win, marked the 4th straight year in which the Mountaineers have beaten the Rockets on DCU ice. Wachusett erupted for 5 goals in the first period to take immediate control of the game. Matt Brousseau scored the game's first goal unassisted putting Wachusett up 1-0 at the 1:11 mark of the first period. Ryan Flaherty put Wachusett up 2-0 at 3:39 with assists going to Brayden Allaire and Jake Penniman. At 6:53, Cody Penniman scored to make it 3-0. Travis Laidlaw assisted on that goal. Brayden Allaire scored at 8:12 to increase the score to 4-0 with an assist going to Caden Lane. Auburn would get on the scoreboard on a power play goal at 11:02, but that momentum only last ed 12 seconds before Penniman scored his second of the game, this time unassisted, to close out the first period at 5 - 1. Depsite a lot of shots by both teams in the second period, Wachusett would be the only team to score at the 12:39 mark on a pretty power play goal. Ryan Flaherty would score his 2nd of the game with the assists going to C Penniman and Aiden Boyce. Junior defenseman Erik Nordahl scored at the 3:30 mark of the 3rd period to increase Wachusett's lead to 7-1. Travis Laidlaw again assisted on the goal. Kevin Shaw earned the win in net for Wachusett making 14 saves. The team is now 11-1-1 on the season.
