Wachusett Records Record-Breaking 18th Win, 7-0 Over Lexington.

Trevor Staiti stopped all 14 shots he faced in a shutout win over Lexington and was named Player of the Game by his teammates.
Westborough, MA — With a 7-0 win over Lexington tonight, the Wachusett Ice Hockey Team set a new school record for most wins in a regular season. The team is the first in school history to reach 18 wins, posting an 18-1-1 record leading them to their 3rd consecutive berth in the Division I State Playoffs.
Cody Penniman wasted no time in getting the team started with a goal at the 3:13 mark of the first period, burying a centering pass from Ryan Flaherty. Jake Penniman also assisted on the goal. At 11:13, Travis Laidlaw gave Wachusett a 2-0 advantage scoring on the power play with Cody Penniman getting the assist. Ryan Flaherty would score an unassisted goal at 14:00 to give the Mountaineers a 3-0 lead at the first intermission.
Cody Penniman again started the scoring in the 2nd with an unassisted goal at the 3:00 mark. At 13:45, Jake Penniman would score the prettiest goal of the night, collecting the puck in the neutral zone, speeding past a defenseman, then he pulled the puck between his legs and roofed a shot to put Wachusett up 5-0 after 2. Cody Penniman and Flaherty earned assists on this power play goal.
Travis Laidlaw increased the lead to 6-0 with a nice tip off of an Ethan Bennett shot from the blue line. Codey Penniman earned another assist, capping off a 5-point night. Finally, at 7:31, Erik Nordahl would cap off the scoring with a blast from the right side that found the top of the net. Caden Lane and Brayden Allaire earned the assists.
Trevor Staiti, a senior making his final regular season start, turned away all 14 shots earning a shutout and the Player of the Game Award from his teammates.
The team finishes the season with an 18-1-1 record and is looking forward to making a playoff run next week.
