Bombers Pull Away Late to Defeat St. John Vianney, 54-42

Holmdel, NJ — The Sayreville Bombers improved to 2-0 on the season with a hard-fought 54-42 victory over St. John Vianney on Wednesday night. After a slow start, the Bombers used a dominant third quarter to take control and secure the win.
Sayreville trailed 10-9 after the first quarter but responded with a strong second period, outscoring Vianney 16-12 to take a 25-22 lead into halftime. The Bombers broke the game open in the third quarter, putting up 19 points while holding Vianney to 12. A steady defensive effort in the final frame sealed the 12-point win.
Sam Jones led all scorers with 19 points and added four rebounds. Ziyan Jones contributed 15 points and nine rebounds, earning the team’s Blue Collar Hard Hat Award for his relentless effort. Chidi Chukwurah chipped in 14 points and eight boards, while Andrew Provenza controlled the glass with 10 rebounds to go along with four points, earning recognition as The Boards Boss.
The Bombers also highlighted their playmaking, with Sam Jones, Chidi Chukwurah, and JC Lewis named Dime Droppers for their assists.
Sayreville will look to keep its perfect record intact when it travels to East Brunswick on Thursday for a 6 p.m. tip-off.
