Westminster, CA — After reading the score 2x I need to emphasize the fact that you did read it correctly. We were completely overmatched from the start. Villa Park put on a clinic against us as they made 12 three pointers in the 1st half and several dunks to race out to a big lead that we were never able to put a dent into. We did at one point cut the lead to 9 points before another wave of shots went down against us. I must say that in the most difficult of times, we did see some character traits to be proud of. Senior Devin Fortune played inspired and tough.....in the 4th quarter. As I told the guys after the game, to play with that kind of effort in the worst of times says a lot about who you are and what you are ultimately capable of. That was really good to see from him. In a post game conversation with a college coach that was in attendance, that very fact was brought up.....the coach was impressed. We will challenge our guys to take the last two nights seriously and not immaturely blow it off. We collectively will learn from it and continue to strive for better. In an effort to add on to some good, I would like to also let you know that the Principal at Beckman High came up to me at halftime of our game on Wednesday night to ask if I was the head coach. When I responded that I was, he stated that he was incredibly impressed with our Freshmen and Varsity guys (JV was not there) in their demeanor and character. He stated that it was obvious the attention to detail that we had off the court because of how respectful our guys were and how they conducted themselves on the court. Clearly I was very happy to get the recognition but also am appreciative of the fact that part of this tribute goes out to you guys in Ram Nation for your efforts in molding these guys. Thank you for all that you do to make our guys shine when we are away from home.
