South Plainfield, NJ — Sayreville battled back with a strong second half but came up short in an 82–74 loss to South Plainfield on January 15. The Bombers struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19–9 after the first quarter. South Plainfield continued to control the tempo in the second quarter, extending its lead with a 26–20 edge to take a 45–29 advantage into halftime. Sayreville responded coming out of the locker room, turning the game around with an impressive third quarter. Led by aggressive offense and improved defensive intensity, the Bombers outscored South Plainfield 25–17 to cut the deficit to eight heading into the final period. Sayreville continued to fight in the fourth quarter, winning it 20–19, but the early hole proved too much to overcome. Senior guard Sam Jones led all scorers with 31 points, keeping Sayreville within striking distance throughout the night. Chidi Chukwurah added 27 points with a strong all-around performance, while Ziyan Jones chipped in 11 points. Despite the loss, Sayreville showed resilience and growth, particularly in the second half, as they continue to build momentum heading into the next stretch of the season.
