Redding, CT — The SHS Girls Basketball team picked up their first win of the year against Stratford in the Joel Barlow Holiday Tournament by a score of 64-50. The Gaels came out hot and took a 19-12 lead after the first quarter. The girls took a 5 point lead into halftime and tuned it into a 13 point lead after three quarters. The Gaels were lead by Sophomore Amanda Johnson with a game and career high 22 points. Freshman Julia Cahill also had a career high with 14 points. Senior captain Alyssa Podpolucha had 12 and junior Emmy Reilly chipped in with 8. Chiara Espinelli and Raya Jackson were able to control the inside and had 15 rebounds combined. Sophomores Avery Wheeler, Mel Curry and Annie Suarez were able to handle the press and contribute with 10 assists.
