Senior Forward Brayden Allaire was named Player of the Game by his teammates on Wednesday against Algonquin. Brayden had 2 goals and played a solid all-around game.
Westborough, MA — The ice hockey team extended its non-beaten streak to 5 games last night with a 4-2 win over Mid-Wach A opponent Algonquin.
Wachusett took an early 2-0 lead in the first 4:45 of the first period. Senior forward Travis Laidlaw would open the scoring at 1:12 finishing off a feed from sophomore defenseman Colin Carlson.
At 4:45, senior forward Brayden Allaire scored his first of 2 goals tonight firing a quick shot to the low corner of the net. Kevin O'Keefe and Matt Brousseau picked up assists on the goal.
Algonquin would get one back at the 12:54 mark to make the score 2-1 at the first intermission.
At 4:40 of the 2nd period, senior forward Ryan Flaherty scored on a pass from Laidlaw to make the score 3-1. Then at 10:50, Allaire would net his 2nd goal of the night as he busted to the back post and tipped in a great pass from Carlson. Matt Brousseau also assisted on this goal.
Again, Algonquin would not quit, scoring at 13:39 to make the score 4-2 after two.
The Mountaineers would outshoot the Titans 19 to 4 in the third period, but just couldn't get another one by the Gonk goaltender. Shots for the night were 45 to 14 in favor ov Wachusett.
Senior goalie Trevor Staiti picked up another win making 12 saves.
The team is off this weekend, but will return to the ice on Monday for a 1:30 puck drop against Westford Academy at the Tynsboro Skate 3.
