South Webster, OH — Waverly delivered an impressive 54-37 road victory over South Webster, improving their record to 7-3 on the season. The team showcased balanced scoring and strong teamwork throughout the contest, overcoming an early deficit to pull away for a commanding 17-point win on the opponent's home court.
The game got off to a fantastic start thanks to Landyn Russell, who opened the scoring with a three-pointer and continued his hot streak by scoring all seven of Waverly's first points to give his team an early 7-0 advantage. However, South Webster responded with a 9-point run of their own to briefly take a 13-12 lead at the end of the first quarter. The momentum shifted back to Waverly in the second quarter when Kage Alexander drained a three-pointer to regain the lead, and the team never trailed again.
Waverly's dynamic duo of Alexander and Russell proved unstoppable throughout the night. Alexander finished with a game-high 23 points on efficient 7-17 shooting from the field while connecting on 8 of 10 free throws, including a dominant fourth quarter where he scored 10 points to help seal the victory. Russell complemented Alexander perfectly with 19 points on outstanding 7-13 field goal shooting, including an impressive 3-5 performance from three-point range while making both of his free throw attempts.
The team's depth was on full display as multiple players contributed to the victory. Davion McBride added 5 points with solid shooting, while Sawyer Myers chipped in 4 points on an efficient 2-3 from the field. Gunnar Myers also contributed 2 points to round out a well-balanced team effort that saw Waverly pull away in the second half and control the game's tempo for a convincing road win.
