Poway, CA — By GameChanger Media Sofia Tillis shut down Poway Varsity Titans, throwing a complete game shutout and leading Carlsbad Varsity Lancers to a 6-0 victory on Saturday at 15500 Espola Rd. Carlsbad Varsity Lancers scored five runs in the third inning on the way to victory. Chloe Hernandez singled, scoring one run, an error scored two runs, and Madilyn Mazzulla singled, scoring two runs. A solo home run to center field by Gabriela Nevarez put Carlsbad Varsity Lancers on the board in the top of the first. Aubrey Stiritz (2027) opened the game for Poway Varsity Titans. The starting pitcher allowed eight hits and six runs (two earned) over seven innings, striking out five and walking two. Katelyn Hemerick and Hernandez were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Carlsbad Varsity Lancers. Mazzulla led Carlsbad Varsity Lancers with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The infielder went 1-for-3 on the day. Alyssa Menges (2026) and Natalie Vejtasa (2026) each collected two hits for Poway Varsity Titans. Carlsbad Varsity Lancers play at home on Monday against Escondido Varsity Cougars in their next game.
