Sayreville Blue Bombers Edge Out East Brunswick in Thrilling Finish to Extend Undefeated Streak to 12 Games!
The Sayreville Bombers defeated East Brunswick 49-45 in a hard fought contest to improve to 12-0 on the season. The Bombers stormed out to an early 14-2 lead with their aggressive press defense. Captain Colin Maher, Captain DJ Thomas, Landon Gregory, Julian Simpkins and Ryan Ruiter created turnovers and fast break opportunities for Sayreville. However, East Brunswick caught fire from the perimeter as they battled back to cut the deficit to 30-27 at the half. The Bombers again came out strong in the 3rd quarter to build another lead but East Brunswick continued to answer the challenge. East Brunswick's strategic decision to switch to a 1-3-1 zone defense stymied the Bombers for much of the 2nd half. With the game hanging in the balance, Naeto Attah came into the game and hit the clutch basket of the season to extend the Bombers lead to 3. With East Brunswick forced to foul, team captain DJ Thomas went to the line with a chance to ice the game. By hitting the 1st free throw the Bombers pulled ahead by 4. Colin Maher (Team High +9 ART score) stole a cross-court pass with 2 seconds left to clinch the game for Sayreville.
