Groton, MA — Playing their 2nd of 3 games in 3 days, the Mountaineers ran into a scrappy North Middlesex team. Although Wachusett dominated zone time and outshot the Patriots 45 to 15, it wasn't until the 3rd period until Wachusett was able to blow the game open. Cody Penniman got Wachusett on the board in the first period scoring at 9:54 on a feed from linemate Travis Laidlaw. Wachusett took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission. Caden Lane scored the only two Wachusett goals in the second period. Both goals were assisted by Matt Brousseau and the second was also assisted by Brayden Allaire. After two periods, the Mountaineers had outshot NM by a 30 to 10 margin, but only had a 3-1 advantage going into the third. Wachusett got rolling in the third though. Senior defenseman Jake Penniman scored at 1:40 with Brousseau assisting. Then Ryan Flaherty scored at 8:04 with assists going to Allaire and Colin Carlson. Just 17 seconds later, Travis Laidlaw scored to make it a 6-1 game. Flaherty and C Penniman assisted on that goal. And, finally, Player of the Game Erik Nordahl scored at 11:15 to cap off the scoring and give Wachusett the 7-1 advantage. Allaire picked up his 3rd assist of the night on the goal and Brousseau picked up his 4th. Reed LaBaire was solid in net for Wachusett stopping 14 NM shots. The team is now 12-1-1 on the season and looking forward to a rematch against Algonquin tomorrow night. Wachusett will host their annual Senior Night tomorrow to honor their 10 seniors: Brayden Allaire, Aiden Boyce, Matt Brousseau, Ryan Flaherty, Zach Hoadley, Travis Laidlaw, Caden Lane, Cody Penniman, Jake Penniman and Trevor Staiti. The game is scheduled for a 7:30 puck drop and the Senior Night ceremony will be at 7:15 at the NorthStar Ice Sports in Westboro.
