Parlin, NJ — The Sayreville Boys Blue defeated Piscataway 66-46 at home to conclude their storybook season. After Piscataway opened the game with a quick 3 on the opening tip to take the lead the Bombers turned the energy level up. Their trademark "Nova" press led by Landon Gregory at the top and captains Colin Maher and DJ Thomas on the wing created havoc as the Bombers went on a 26-4 run. The Bombers executed the plays at their highest level all season and thanks to great screens and great cuts by the starting 5 they consistently got open looks. Guard Julian Simpkins had his best game of the season on both ends as he relentlessly pressured the ball and attacked the rim. Center Ryan Ruiter dominated the glass with 10 rebounds, 2 assists, and only 1 turnover. This gave him a game high +13 ART Score. Colin Maher's 4 rebounds and 4 assists with 0 turnovers put him in 2nd place with a +12. Other contributors included guard Dalton Cannan who was tied for 2nd on the team with 4 assists. Jayvian Cespedes, Gio Iwashyna, and Naeto Attah helped the Bombers extend their lead with passing and scoring. Ryan Acevedo contributed 3 rebounds, 2 assists, with 0 turnovers for a strong +7 ART score for the game. Myles Mitchell always brings great energy on defense and played aggressively. Pat Walsh grabbed a pair of rebounds and had a nice putback to put the game away. Coach Donegan is extremely proud that the Bombers held all opponents under 50 points for the entire season. All 13 boys worked extremely hard behind the scenes in practice on their on ball defense, help defense, communication, rebounding for 3 straight months. They didn't take it easy at practice. They put in the time and that hard work paid off. We pressured the ball, had active hands, and closed out strong on shooters all season long. This group raised the bar to another level for this season and will be the standard that I will hold future teams. SO PROUD OF THESE BOYS!
