Middletown, NY — Middletown, NY — The Red Hook High School boys varsity lacrosse team earned a strong non-conference victory on Saturday, defeating Middletown 11–6 behind a balanced offensive attack and a dominant defensive effort.
After a tightly contested first quarter, Red Hook took control in the second, outscoring Middletown 6–0 to build a lead they would not relinquish. The Raiders added to their advantage in the second half, sealing the win with consistent play on both ends of the field.
Junior Lucas Flores led the offense with 3 goals, while senior Danny Cashen and junior Chris Macri each added 3 goals of their own. Senior John Macri contributed across the board with 2 goals and 2 assists, helping to facilitate the Raider offense.
Red Hook’s defensive unit played a key role in the victory, limiting Middletown’s scoring opportunities and controlling possession. Senior Chris Macri led the way with 10 ground balls and 5 caused turnovers, while junior Calvin Steele added 6 ground balls. Steele also excelled at the faceoff X, winning 14 of 21 draws (67%), giving Red Hook a consistent edge in possession.
In goal, senior Jack Melious turned in a solid performance with 10 saves, anchoring the defense and helping keep Middletown at bay throughout the game.
The Raiders’ combination of offensive balance, defensive pressure, and faceoff success proved to be the difference as Red Hook improved with the 11–6 win.
The Raiders are back in action on Tuesday, traveling to Monroe-Woodbury to take on the Crusaders.
