Elgin, IL — Brayden Duran drove in four runs on three hits to lead Zion-Benton Varsity Zee-Bees past Elgin Varsity Maroons 19-3 on Tuesday at Elgin High School. Duran singled in the first inning, scoring two runs, and doubled in the fifth inning, scoring two. The bottom of the lineup was strong for the Zee-Bees. Aaden Grider, Andrew Mitchell, and JJ Villalobos combined for 10 of the team's 19 hits in their victory. They scored seven runs and drove in four. The Zee-Bees jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after Duran singled, scoring two runs, Grider tripled, scoring two runs, and Villalobos singled, scoring one run. A hit by a pitch extended the Zee-Bees lead to 6-3 in the top of the second inning. Zion-Benton Varsity Zee-Bees extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI errors by Jake Mitchell and Michael Gonzalez. The Zee-Bees scored seven runs on seven hits in the top of the fifth inning. Villalobos singled, scoring one run, Sam Villarreal singled, scoring one run, Duran doubled, scoring two runs, Gonzalez singled, scoring two runs, and Villalobos grounded out, scoring one run. Villarreal earned the win for Zion-Benton Varsity Zee-Bees. The pitcher allowed six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking one. The Zee-Bees amassed 19 hits in the game. Grider, the Zee-Bees's number seven hitter, led the team with four hits in five at-bats. Gonzalez and Duran were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in four runs for the Zee-Bees. Villarreal, Mitchell, and Villalobos each collected multiple hits for Zion-Benton. Mitchell and Duran each stole multiple bases. The Zee-Bees stole 10 bases in the game and didn't commit a single error in the field. Grider had the most chances in the field with six.
