Zion, IL — The Zee-Bees defeated Highland Park Varsity Giants 11-5 on Wednesday at Zion-Benton Township High School District 126 thanks in part to seven runs in the fifth inning. Jake Mitchell singled, scoring two runs, Brayden Duran doubled, scoring one run, Sam Villarreal singled, scoring one run, Ross Ames was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Aaden Grider singled, scoring two runs.
The Zee-Bees were the first to get on the board in the first when JJ Villalobos singled, scoring one run.
Highland Park took the lead in the top of the 4th 4-1.
Zion-Benton tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth thanks to two doubles.
Villarreal earned the win for Zion-Benton. The hurler allowed nine hits and five runs over six innings, striking out four and walking one. Ames threw one inning of no-run ball for Zion-Benton in relief. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out none and walking none.
Zion-Benton accumulated 12 hits in the game. Michael Gonzalez, Mitchell, Duran, and Villalobos each collected two hits for the Zee-Bees. Gonzalez, Grider, Mitchell, and Villalobos each drove in two runs for Zion-Benton. Brayden Graham stole two bases. Zion-Benton also turned one double play in the game.
Zion-Benton welcomes Wheeling on Saturday for Senior day.
