Mundelein, IL — A walk-off single left Zion-Benton on the wrong end of a 4-3 defeat to Mundelein on Thursday at Mundelein High School. The game was tied at three in the bottom of the seventh.
Mundelein were the first to get on the board in the first.
Mundelein extended the lead to 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning.
Sam Villarreal singled down the left field line, which helped Zion-Benton tie the game at three in the top of the fifth.
Monchie Gunter V took the loss for the Zee-Bees. The right-handed pitcher went one and two-thirds innings, surrendering one run on one hit, striking out one and walking none.
Michael Gonzalez began the game for the Zee-Bees. The starter gave up five hits and three runs over five innings, striking out one and walking two.
Villarreal went 1-for-3 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. The Zee-Bees's Ross Ames, the number seven hitter, led the Bees with two hits in three at bats. The Zee-Bees were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. JJ Villalobos had the most chances in the field with seven.
Zion-Benton welcomes Rolling Meadows on Saturday for their next game.
