San Juan Capistrano, CA — The @jserra.football team notched its’ first victory of the season on Friday, as the Lions dispatched the Long Beach Wilson Bruins by a score of 63-0 in a nonleague game at JSerra Catholic High School. JSerra seized control of the contest on the second play of the game, as senior running back Will Fredericksen charged through the line and sprinted down the left sideline for a 78-yard touchdown run. Junior Bo Argenal set the Lions up deep in Bruins’ territory with a fumble recovery (his first of two in the quarter), and sophomore running back R.J. Corley scored on a two-yard run to increase the Lions’ lead to 14-0. Senior quarterback Hayes Cloutier connected with junior wide receiver Sam Fredericksen on a beautiful 34-yard scoring strike later in the quarter to spark the Lions to a 21-0 advantage. Cloutier tossed scoring passes of six yards to senior Grayson Matvay and 23 yards to senior Clark Cokley in the second quarter, which pushed the Lions lead to 35-0. Corley’s second scoring run of the half from seven yards out and a 20-yard touchdown connection from sophomore quarterback Jack Hilgenberg to senior Kai Taylor gave the Lions a 49-0 halftime lead. Freshman running back Taeali’l Gagau found the end zone on scoring runs of four yards and two yards respectively in the second half to put the finishing touches on the Lions’ shutout triumph.
