Wichita, KS — Goddard Varsity Lions were victorious against Kapaun Mt. Carmel 5-4 on Thursday. A solo home run to right field by Sullenger put Kapaun Mt. Carmel on the board in the bottom of the first. Kapaun Mt. Carmel added one run in the third. Purvis doubled down the left field line, making the score 2-0. Goddard Varsity Lions flipped the game on its head in the top of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 5-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Cape that drove in two. Dreiling earned the win for Goddard Varsity Lions. The starter gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) over four innings, striking out none and walking one. Sullenger took the loss for Kapaun Mt. Carmel. The pitcher went three innings, allowing five runs on four hits, striking out two and walking two. Topham collected the save. Williamson appeared in relief for Goddard Varsity Lions. Cape and Stevens each collected two hits for Goddard Varsity Lions. Cape went 2-for-4 at the plate and led the team with two runs batted in. Goddard Varsity Lions turned one double play in the game.
