San Diego, CA — The @jserrahoops Boys Basketball team rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit to pull out a 60-59 victory over the Francis Parker Lancers in a Southern Regional first round game of the CIF State Basketball Championships on Tuesday at Francis Parker High School in San Diego. JSerra is now 24-13 overall and will host Trinity League rival Mater Dei in a second-round contest on Thursday at JSerra Catholic High School. The two teams were tied at 16-16 after the first quarter, but the host Lancers outscored JSerra 18-8 in the second quarter to take a 34-24 lead into halftime. Senior Jaden Bailes scored eight points in the third quarter to help the Lions trim the deficit to 48-43 heading into the fourth quarter. Bailes and junior Godschoice Eboigbodin each scored eight points in the fourth quarter, with Bailes tying the contest on a three-pointer from the top of the key with just over three minutes remaining. Sophomore Ryan Doane knocked down what proved to be the game-winning free throw with 1:35 left for the final margin of victory. The Lions defense held the Lancers scoreless over the final 3:22 to seal the victory. Bailes finished with a team-high 23 points, as he connected on 6-of-12 shots from the field and 5-of-9 from three-point range. Eboigbodin added 14 points (on 5-of-7 shooting) and six rebounds.
