Riley Heuett drove in four runs on two hits to lead Show Low Varsity Cougars past Florence 11-0 on Monday. Heuett hit a home run to right field in the fourth inning, scoring three runs, and singled in the third inning, scoring one.
Show Low Varsity Cougars won thanks in part to eight runs in the fourth inning. Rylee Wyatt homered to center field, scoring three runs, Heuett homered to right field, scoring three runs, Lyndie Wallentine grounded out, scoring one run, and a wild pitch scored one run.
A sacrifice fly by Addi Clark put Show Low Varsity Cougars on the board in the top of the first.
Show Low Varsity Cougars added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Heuett singled down the left field line, and Florence committed an error, each scoring one run.
Aspyn Clark earned the win for Show Low Varsity Cougars. The starting pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking none. Brea Cortinas took the loss for Florence. The hurler went three and one-third innings, allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on eight hits, striking out four and walking three.
Heuett and Angelee Villa each collected two hits for Show Low Varsity Cougars. Villa stole three bases. Show Low Varsity Cougars stole five bases in the game.
D’Glayne Giberti led Florence with one hit in two at bats.
Show Low Varsity Cougars play at home on Wednesday against Safford in their next game.
