Avery Ervien’s Big Day Propels Show Low Varsity Cougars Past Tombstone Varsity Yellowjackets

Avery Ervien collected three hits in four at bats, as Show Low Varsity Cougars defeated Tombstone Varsity Yellowjackets 25-16 on Friday at Payson. Ervien doubled in the eighth inning, singled in the sixth inning, and singled in the fifth inning.
Rylee Wyatt, Tatum Townsend, and Ervien at the bottom of Show Low Varsity Cougars's lineup combined for eight of the team's 16 hits in their victory. They scored seven runs and drove in eight.
Show Low Varsity Cougars got on the board in the first inning after a steal of home scored two runs.
Tombstone Varsity Yellowjackets tied the game up in the bottom of the fourth thanks to two singles. Tombstone Varsity Yellowjackets tied the game at three on a single by Bella Lopez.
In the top of the sixth inning, Show Low Varsity Cougars went back into the lead after Lyndie Wallentine doubled to center field, Townsend singled to center field, and Ervien singled to center field, each scoring one run.
Tombstone Varsity Yellowjackets tied the game in the bottom of the sixth thanks to an error, a double by Bria Gross, and a line out by Arabella Alvarez.
Show Low Varsity Cougars made the score 10-6 in the top of the seventh after Wyatt singled, scoring one run, Riley Heuett was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, and Wallentine singled, scoring two runs.
Tombstone Varsity Yellowjackets tied the game in the bottom of the seventh thanks to a hit by a pitch, a double by Gross, and a passed ball.
Show Low Varsity Cougars flipped the game on its head in the top of the eighth, scoring 15 runs on seven hits to take the lead, 25-10. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Townsend that drove in two.
Tombstone Varsity Yellowjackets scored six runs on two hits in the bottom of the eighth inning. Alvarez singled, scoring one run, one run scored on another play, and Gross hit a grand slam to left field.
Addi Clark earned the win for Show Low Varsity Cougars. The hurler allowed 11 hits and 14 runs (three earned) over four and one-third innings, striking out five and walking five. Gross took the loss for Tombstone Varsity Yellowjackets. The starter went six innings, giving up eight runs (three earned) on eight hits, striking out 10 and walking two. Wallentine led things off in the circle for Show Low Varsity Cougars. The righty gave up five hits and two runs (one earned) over three and one-third innings, striking out four and walking one. Aspyn Clark collected the save.
