Atchison, KS — The Tonganoxie Lady Chieftains varsity soccer team opened up their season with a 5-2 win over Atchison on Tuesday, March 24th. Natalie Loving opened up the scoring early in the game with a penalty kick won by Molly Vought. Not long after, Loving added another goal from a corner kick. Towards the end of the first half, Atchison scored a last minute goal on a breakaway leaving the score at 2-1. Paityn VanMiddlesworth, Marissa Dick, and Loving led the Chieftains with three shots each in the first half. Lauren Breuer held the first half down with three saves. Going into the second half with a score of 2-1, Atchison snuck in a second goal to tie the game early in the half. Lilli Sanders struck back not long after to put the Chieftains ahead again with a score of 3-2. Vought was called offside for an almost goal, however, this did not stop her and she got a legal goal not more than a minute after with an assist from VanMiddlesworth. To end the scoring, VanMiddlesworth tapped in a pass from Sanders. Isa Rasnic subbed in for Breuer to finish the game off and recorded one save. The Chieftains play their home opener on Thursday, March 26th at 6 p.m. against Baldwin. The Lady Chieftains JV soccer team started their season off with a 2-0 win over Atchison on March 24th. The first half went scoreless as both teams were trying to find their footing. Reese Eckstein scored the first goal of the season about five minutes into the second half. The second goal came when Alicia Rojas put pressure on the Atchison backline which resulted in an own goal. Rojas led the team with three shots and Gabby Garza was not far behind with two shots. Isa Rasnic recorded one save in the second half. The JV team has their home opener on March 26th at 4:30 p.m. against Baldwin. By Josie Hallier [email protected]
