First-Inning Firestorm: Tucker’s Grand Slam Ignites 10–4 Griffins Win
San Diego City 4, Grossmont 10
El Cajon, CA — Grossmont didn’t just win Tuesday’s matchup—they blew it open in the first inning, riding a six-run outburst to a commanding 10–4 victory over San Diego City.
After Destin Allen-Fox set the tone with a clean top of the first—highlighted by a strikeout and a caught runner—the Griffins’ offense wasted no time delivering the knockout punch.
The inning started simply enough, as Druw Frost lined a single to left-center and Justin Heffler reached after being hit by a pitch. With two aboard, Noah Libed worked a walk to load the bases and set the stage.
Two outs later, Talon Tucker delivered the defining moment of the game.
On the first pitch he saw, Tucker launched a towering drive to right-center for a grand slam, instantly flipping the game to 4–0 and sending energy surging through the Grossmont dugout.
But the Griffins weren’t finished.
Drake Konja followed with a walk, and Anthony Thomas ripped a double to center to bring in another run. Moments later, Dominic Crosetti lined an RBI single, capping a relentless inning that saw Grossmont send nine hitters to the plate and take a 6–0 lead.
San Diego City responded in the second inning, taking advantage of a defensive miscue. Joel Romo drove in a run with a single that turned into extra bases on an error, and Andrew Keegan followed with an RBI knock to trim the deficit to 6–2.
Any momentum was short-lived.
In the bottom half of the inning, Logan Aguilar answered immediately, launching a solo home run to right field to push the lead back to five.
From there, Grossmont continued to control the game behind steady pitching and timely power. Justin Heffler added a solo shot in the sixth, extending the lead to 8–2.
San Diego City showed fight late, getting a solo home run from Blake Mitchell in the seventh and manufacturing a run in the eighth on a wild pitch. But the early deficit proved insurmountable.
Grossmont added final insurance in the eighth, with Anthony Thomas delivering another RBI single before a wild pitch brought home Drake Konja to make it 10–4.
On the mound, Allen-Fox was sharp across five innings, allowing just two runs (one earned) while striking out seven. He worked efficiently through traffic and prevented San Diego City from ever mounting a serious comeback threat.
Offensively, Tucker’s grand slam set the tone, but the Griffins’ lineup showed depth throughout. Thomas finished with two RBIs, Crosetti added a run-scoring hit, and three different players—Tucker, Aguilar, and Heffler—left the yard in a balanced attack.
In the end, the story was simple: one explosive inning, sustained pressure, and a complete team performance. Grossmont jumped early—and never gave San Diego City a chance to recover.
