Linden — By GameChanger Media Goodrich Varsity Martians fell 9-6 to Lake Fenton on Monday at Lake Fenton High School despite out-hitting them eight to seven. Ayannah Jackson and Olivia Bartlett each collected two hits for Goodrich Varsity Martians. Goodrich Varsity Martians opened the scoring in the second after Bartlett doubled, scoring one run. Goodrich Varsity Martians extended their early lead with two runs in the top of the third thanks to RBI doubles by Makenzie Jackson and Jackson. Lake Fenton jumped into the lead in the bottom of the fourth when an error scored one run, and A Heil homered to center field, scoring three runs. Goodrich Varsity Martians tied the game up in the top of the fifth thanks to two singles. Goodrich Varsity Martians tied the game at six on a single by Alaina Overland. In the bottom of the sixth, Lake Fenton broke up the tie when an error scored two runs. Then a single by M Stanton followed to extend the lead to 9-6. Stanton earned the win for Lake Fenton. The starting pitcher surrendered eight hits and six runs over seven innings, striking out 11 and walking three. Overland took the loss for Goodrich Varsity Martians. The pitcher went two and one-third innings, surrendering three runs (zero earned) on three hits, striking out one and walking two. Samantha Hiller led things off in the circle for Goodrich Varsity Martians. The hurler allowed four hits and six runs (zero earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out seven and walking three. Overland led Goodrich Varsity Martians with two runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 1-for-1 on the day. Heil drove the middle of the lineup, leading Lake Fenton with three runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Stanton went 3-for-4 at the plate to lead Lake Fenton in hits. P Deweese paced Lake Fenton with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, tallying five walks for the game.
