South Pasadena Varsity Tigers Show Fight in Tight Battle with Monrovia
Monrovia 4, South Pasadena 3
South Pasadena, CA — April 21, 2026 vs. Monrovia
The South Pasadena Varsity Tigers put together a strong, competitive effort on Tuesday, coming up just short in a 4-3 game against Monrovia. In a matchup that stayed close from start to finish, the Tigers showed resilience and determination, battling all the way to the final inning.
South Pasadena struck first with a highlight moment in the bottom of the third, as Robinson launched a solo home run to left field to get the Tigers on the board. Monrovia answered, and the game remained tightly contested through the middle innings.
The Tigers continued to respond under pressure, tying the game in the bottom of the sixth thanks to a clutch RBI single from Gutierrez and productive situational hitting by Ortiz. Their ability to manufacture runs and stay within striking distance kept the momentum alive late into the game.
On the mound, Chan delivered a solid outing, going six innings while allowing just two earned runs and keeping the Tigers in position to compete. Offensively, Kawasaki and Leyva led the way with two hits apiece, while Robinson, Ortiz, and Gutierrez each contributed an RBI.
With the score tied heading into the final inning, Monrovia managed to push across the go-ahead run, but the Tigers’ effort and execution throughout the game reflected a team that continues to grow and compete at a high level.
South Pasadena will look to build on this strong performance as they head into a rematch at Monrovia on Friday, with plenty of momentum and confidence to carry forward.
