Whitehall — Carson Strauss’s Big Day Propels Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs Past Parkland

Carson Strauss collected three hits in four at bats, as Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs defeated Parkland 13-3 on Wednesday. Strauss singled in the fifth inning, singled in the first inning, and doubled in the fifth inning.
Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs got on the board in the bottom of the first inning after Strauss singled down the right field line, and Parkland committed an error, each scoring one run.
In the top of the fourth inning, Parkland went back into the lead after Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs dropped a third strike, Brawn walked, and Huber walked, each scoring one run.
Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 7-3. The biggest blow in the inning was an error that drove in two.
Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs scored six runs on three hits in the bottom of the fifth inning. Gabe Glass was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Kane Braun singled, scoring one run, Griffin Peters was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Kevin Nguyen drew a walk, scoring one run, and Strauss singled, scoring two runs.
Yorvi Almonte started the game for Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs. The pitcher gave up one hit and three runs (zero earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out eight and walking five. Mitchell began the game for Parkland. The hurler allowed six hits and seven runs (four earned) over four innings, striking out six and walking three. Nguyen tossed one inning of no-run ball for Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs in relief. The reliever gave up one hit, striking out one and walking one.
Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs tallied nine hits in the game. Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs were sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Glass made the most plays with eight.
Huber and Brawn each drove in one run for Parkland. Schmidt went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Parkland in hits. Brawn led Parkland with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, piling up seven walks for the game.
Whitehall Junior Varsity Zephyrs will travel to Stroudsburg for their next game on Friday.
