Redding, CA — Despite an 8-run deficit in the fifth inning, Enterprise Varsity Hornets almost came all the way back, eventually falling 10-9 to Central Valley on Wednesday at Enterprise High School. Enterprise Varsity Hornets closed the gap by scoring on a single, a single, a double, a double, a single, and a single. Enterprise Varsity Hornets was right in it until Central Valley doubled in the eighth inning. Central Valley jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after an error scored one run, and Lilly Infield singled, scoring two runs. Central Valley added to their early lead in the top of the third inning after Ava Lanzit singled to center field, and Enterprise Varsity Hornets committed an error, each scoring one run. Enterprise Varsity Hornets flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fifth, scoring nine runs on 11 hits to take the lead, 9-8. The biggest blow in the inning was a double by Rachel Hess that drove in two. Infield singled to left field, which helped Central Valley tie the game at nine in the top of the sixth. Shelby Hopper led things off in the circle for Enterprise Varsity Hornets. The starter allowed 11 hits and 10 runs (five earned) over eight innings, striking out six and walking seven. Luna Blankenship started the game for Central Valley. The starter allowed 11 hits and nine runs (eight earned) over five innings, striking out three and walking one. Enterprise Varsity Hornets accumulated 11 hits in the game. Dakota Strickland and Sadie Ross each collected two hits for Enterprise Varsity Hornets. Carly Graham and Hess were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in two runs for Enterprise Varsity Hornets. Enterprise Varsity Hornets turned one double play in the game. Central Valley collected 11 hits in the game. Infield led Central Valley with three runs batted in from the number seven spot in the lineup. The left fielder went 2-for-5 on the day. Lanzit led Central Valley with four hits in five at bats. Blankenship paced Central Valley with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting seven walks for the game. Jaycee Horst stole two bases. Central Valley stole six bases in the game. Central Valley were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
