Sandy Hook, CT — By GameChanger Thursday's game against Westhill Varsity Vikings was a heartbreaker for Newtown Nighthawks, as they lost the lead late in a 5-4 defeat. The game was tied at four in the top of the seventh when Charles Combest singled, scoring one run. A ground out by Kieran Garrity put Newtown Nighthawks on the board in the bottom of the first. In the top of the second inning, Westhill Varsity Vikings went back into the lead after Zach Rende singled down the left field line, and Harrison Tronick flew out, each scoring one run. Newtown Nighthawks took the lead in the bottom of the fourth inning after Trevor Stott singled down the right field line, Ryan Schmidt singled up the middle, and Travis Rekos grounded out, each scoring one run. In the top of the seventh inning, Westhill Varsity Vikings went back into the lead after Aidan Dube grounded out, and Charles Combest singled to center field, each scoring one run.
