Clay Center, KS — Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders got out to a 9-run lead in the sixth inning and held on for a 9-7 victory over Clay Center High School on Monday. Clay Center High School closed the gap by scoring on a sacrifice fly, a single, a single, a walk, and a double.
Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders opened the scoring in the third after McCarthy hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run.
Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders scored six runs on four hits in the top of the fourth inning. Kohlmeier singled, scoring two runs, Stanley was struck by a pitch, driving in a run, Adams singled, scoring two runs, and Hall singled, scoring one run.
Clay Center High School scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the sixth inning. Guerey hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, Barrothe singled, scoring one run, Link singled, scoring one run, Lund drew a walk, scoring one run, and Johnston doubled, scoring three runs.
Adams earned the win for Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders. The starting pitcher gave up six hits and seven runs (one earned) over seven innings, striking out nine and walking three. Williams took the loss for Clay Center High School. The starter went four innings, surrendering seven runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out two and walking none.
Adams, Coon, and Hall each collected two hits for Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders. Kohlmeier, Adams, and Hall each drove in two runs for Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders.
Johnston, the number nine hitter for Clay Center High School, led the way with three runs batted in. The outfielder went 1-for-2 on the day. Barrothe led Clay Center High School with two hits in three at bats.
