Clay Center, KS — Alana McCarthy drove in four runs on three hits to lead Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders past Clay Center High School 17-7 on Monday at 205 South 12th Street. McCarthy singled in the first scoring two, doubled in the second scoring two, and singled in the fifth scoring one.
Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders jumped out to the lead in the top of the first inning after McCarthy singled, scoring two runs, and Adams grounded out, scoring one run.
Guerey homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first for the Clay Center High School.
Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders scored five runs on four hits in the top of the second inning. Evans tripled, scoring two runs, McCarthy doubled, scoring two runs, and Adams singled, scoring one run.
Clay Center High School scored five runs on six hits in the bottom of the second inning. Hammond doubled, scoring three runs, Dumas singled, scoring one run, and Barrothe singled, scoring one run.
Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders scored five runs on five hits in the top of the fourth inning. Adams singled, scoring two runs, Cook doubled, scoring two runs, and Massieon singled, scoring one run.
Cook earned the win for Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders. The pitcher gave up 10 hits and seven runs (six earned) over five innings, striking out two and walking one. Hammond took the loss for Clay Center High School. The hurler went three and one-third innings, surrendering 13 runs on 11 hits, striking out two and walking four.
Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders tallied 15 hits in the game. Evans, Adams, Stanley, and McCarthy each collected three hits for Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders. Massieon collected two hits for Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders in three at bats. Hall led Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, collecting five walks for the game.
Clay Center High School amassed 10 hits in the game. Long, Dumas, and Guerey each collected two hits for Clay Center High School. Hammond led Clay Center High School with three runs batted in. The pitcher went 1-for-3 on the day. Clay Center High School turned one double play in the game.
