Sandy Hook, CT — By GameChanger It came down to the wire on Tuesday at Newtown High School, as Newtown Nighthawks Freshman grabbed the victory in walk-off fashion, 7-6, over Ridgefield Freshman Tigers. The game was tied at six in the bottom of the seventh when Justin Twitchell singled, scoring one run. Ridgefield Freshman Tigers got on the board in the top of the third inning after Kian Griffin was struck by a pitch, and Sean Sambus hit a sacrifice fly, each scoring one run. Newtown Nighthawks Freshman captured the lead, 6-3, in the bottom of the sixth when an error scored two runs, Conor Mcgee singled, scoring one run, and Jake Coscia lined out, scoring one run. Ridgefield Freshman Tigers tied the game in the top of the seventh thanks to a double by Nicholas Cappiello, and a sacrifice fly by Matthew Leritz. Zach Milkovic earned the win for Newtown Nighthawks Freshman. The righty surrendered zero hits and two runs (zero earned) over three and two-thirds innings, striking out five and walking four. Alexander Buckley stepped on the hill first for Ridgefield Freshman Tigers. The starting pitcher allowed two hits and two runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking five. Justin Twitchell appeared in relief for Newtown Nighthawks Freshman. Justin Twitchell provided pop in the middle of the lineup, and led Newtown Nighthawks Freshman with three runs batted in. The number three hitter went 1-for-4 on the day. Bryce Pacuk and Conor Mcgee each collected two hits for Newtown Nighthawks Freshman. James Trubiano led Newtown Nighthawks Freshman with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, tallying seven walks for the game. Bryce Pacuk and Conor Mcgee each stole multiple bases for Newtown Nighthawks Freshman.
