Topeka, KS — Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders stayed in it until the end, but Olathe South Falcons pulled away late in a 9-7 victory on Thursday at Lake Shawnee Softball Complex. Olathe South Falcons were down 7-6 in the bottom of the sixth inning when Hamner homered to center field, scoring three runs. Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders lost despite out-hitting Olathe South Falcons eight to seven. McCarthy led Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders with three hits. Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders opened the scoring in the first after McCarthy hit a solo home run to center field. A single by Hamner gave Olathe South Falcons the lead, 2-1, in the bottom of the first. Frantz homered to center field, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second for the Olathe South Falcons. Hamner hit a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the third for the Olathe South Falcons. Massieon homered to center field, which helped Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders tie the game at five in the top of the fifth. Olathe South Falcons took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Wolf doubled, scoring one run, to give Olathe South Falcons the leg up, 6-5. A home run to center field by Schultz gave Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders the lead, 7-6, in the top of the sixth. Zagozda earned the win for Olathe South Falcons. The righty allowed eight hits and seven runs (five earned) over seven innings, striking out eight and walking seven. Cook took the loss for Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders. The pitcher went one inning, surrendering three runs on two hits, striking out none and walking one. Adams stepped in the circle first for Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders. The right-handed pitcher allowed five hits and six runs (four earned) over five innings, striking out eight and walking one. Massieon drove the middle of the lineup, leading Wamego Varsity Lady Raiders with three runs batted in. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-4 on the day.
