Despite seeing their 5-run lead whittled down by the end, Shelton Freshman Gaels still held off for a 6-5 victory on Thursday. Amity closed the gap by scoring on a single and a single.
A ground out by Jayden Pena put Shelton Freshman Gaels on the board in the bottom of the third.
Ry Windsor singled down the left field line, which helped Amity tie the game at one in the top of the fourth.
Shelton Freshman Gaels flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the fourth, scoring five runs on four hits to take the lead, 6-1. The biggest blow in the inning was a single by Nate Milosico that drove in two.
Brayden Blohm earned the win for Shelton Freshman Gaels. The righty gave up five hits and five runs over six and two-thirds innings, striking out 10 and walking one. Lou Pegnataro took the loss for Amity. The starter went five innings, surrendering six runs (one earned) on six hits, striking out six and walking three. Jack Long collected the save.
Tyrone Motley, Eric Veloz, Jayden Pena, Luke Giampalo, and Nate Milosico each drove in one run for Shelton Freshman Gaels. Eric Veloz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Shelton Freshman Gaels in hits.
Cole Battaille led Amity with two hits in four at bats from the leadoff position. Brown stole two bases.
Shelton Freshman Gaels will travel to Xavier for their next game on Friday.
