Mililani Town, HI — The Liberty Patriots opened their season in Oahu, Hawaii against Hawaii's number 1 ranked Mililani Trojans on Friday, August 14, 2026.
Liberty opened the game with a 65 yard TD run by Ezra Sanelivi to take a 6-0 lead. Mililani scored the next two TDs to jump ahead 14-6 at the end of the 1st quarter. Liberty had a strong 2nd quarter with TDs from Nalu Hosaka (22 yd TD rec from Selby Griego) and another Sanelivi TD run (35 yards). Gunnar Massenburgh kicked a 42 yard field goal with no time remaining in the half to give the Patriots a 24-14 Halftime lead.
The second half was not kind to the Patriots as Mililani came back to get the win in the final 2 minutes of the game 31-24. Mililani took the opening possession 70 yards and scored to cut the lead to 24-21. On the next drive, Liberty had a three and out and after a short punt Mililani was able to kick a game tying field goal.
The 4th quarter saw the Patriots have a 4th and inches inside the Mililani 10 where Liberty came up short on a fumbled QB/center exchange. Liberty forced a punt and had the ball with great field possession at mid-field but the Patriots were unable to capitalize and punted the ball back to Mililani with about 5 minutes remaining in the game. Mililani then drove 80 yards for the game winning TD with about two minutes remaining in the game. The game was iced for Mililani when an attempted screen pass was intercepted and Mililani was able to run out the clock.
