Stratford, CT — SWC league opponent Newtown came to town today, being the first game of the week they had their senior ace ready to go, & Stratford only managed 3 hits and 1 run during the 6-1 loss. Stratford starter Junior Julian Rivera went four full innings, his fastball was working well, & he had some tough luck while really putting in a serviceable job and effort. The same was the case for Senior reliever & lefty Evan Wendland who wrapped up the final three innings. Stratford’s lone run was scored in the bottom of the third when the home team pieced together 2 of their 3 hits. Senior Max Owen wind-blown pop into RF to lead off the inning turned into a hustle three-bagger. Next up, Senior Josh Tiberio in the DH spot dropped quickly in a 2-strike count but that didn’t matter as his choked-up, simple 2 strike approach resulted in him liner an oppo frozen rope into RF for his first RBI of the season. Stratford now stands at 1-7, 0-3 SWC. Wednesday has Stratford traveling a short distance north to crosstown rival Bunnell for a 4:15 ballgame.
