Stratford, CT — Stratford Baseball pulled off a great win beating league foe Brookfield 6-5 today at Penders Field 6-5. Brookfield score one run in the top of the first, Stratford answered in the bottom of the first when Julian Rivera doubled in Jack Wiltsie all the way from 1B, and that led a great bunch crazy game between the league foes. Stratford added single runs in the bottoms of the second & fifth to get out to a 3-1 all while escaping trouble & threats that Brookfield was posing. Starter Blake Merfalen ended up pitching 5 2/3 before Eli Jimenez relieved. After Stratford lived too dangerously, Brookfield finally broke through with 3 in the top of the 6th & 1 in the top of the 7th. But Stratford re-grouped & said ‘never say die’. Brayan Fernandes led off the bottom of the 7th with a HBP, Jack Wiltsie next up also did the same, & Julian Rivera then pulled off a base on balls. Then came the scoring - Max Owen sac flies in Brayan Fernandez, Jean Lopez drove in Jack Wiltsie with an IF groundout, & then the game winner came as Eli Jimenez hit a frozen rope to RF with 2 strikes to drive in Julian Rivera with the winning run !!! Jack Wiltsie had 3 hits, Julian Rivera a double & single, Aiden Gonzalez chipped in with 2 hits, & Josh Tiberio stayed hot with another hit. Jean Lopez also hat a hit & 2 RBI. Today was Stratford’s second league win of the season. Stratford will be up at New Fairfield on Monday for a 4:15 game.
