Wichita, KS — Goddard Varsity Lions and Maize South played a taut affair on Tuesday, but Goddard Varsity Lions eventually prevailed 10-8. The game was tied at eight in the top of the seventh when Jensen doubled, scoring one run. Dunlavy collected four hits in four at bats in the win. Dunlavy hit a solo home run to center field in the fourth inning, singled in the seventh inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fifth inning. Goddard Varsity Lions got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jensen tripled, scoring two runs, and Lehmer singled, scoring one run. Maize South took the lead in the bottom of the second inning after Dreiling walked, and Goddard Varsity Lions committed an error, each scoring one run. Goddard Varsity Lions captured the lead, 7-5, in the top of the fourth when Dunlavy hit a solo home run to center field, and Schmidt doubled, scoring two runs. Goddard Varsity Lions committed an error, which helped Maize South tie the game at seven in the bottom of the fourth. A wild pitch gave Maize South the lead, 8-7, in the bottom of the sixth. Goddard Varsity Lions captured the lead, 10-8, in the top of the seventh after Cape doubled to left field, Jensen doubled to center field, and Dunlavy singled down the left field line, each scoring one run. Topham earned the win for Goddard Varsity Lions. The reliever surrendered zero hits and one run over three innings, striking out six and walking two. Case took the loss for Maize South. The reliever went two and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs on six hits, striking out two and walking one. Jensen led things off on the hill for Goddard Varsity Lions. The righty allowed four hits and seven runs (one earned) over four innings, striking out three and walking seven. Haynes stepped on the bump first for Maize South.
