Newtown Nighthawks bested Bunnell Varsity Bulldog 6-2 on Wednesday.
Newtown Nighthawks opened the scoring in the bottom of the first thanks to two singles. Newtown Nighthawks first got on the board when Chris Moseman singled, scoring one run.
Chris Zottoli singled to center field, which helped Bunnell Varsity Bulldog tie the game at two in the top of the fourth.
Newtown Nighthawks took the lead in the bottom of the fifth. Chris Moseman singled, scoring one run, to give Newtown Nighthawks the edge, 3-2.
Jacob Buckley earned the win for Newtown Nighthawks. The pitcher gave up one hit and zero runs over two innings, striking out one and walking none. Jc Izcoa took the loss for Bunnell Varsity Bulldog. The pitcher went five innings, allowing five runs (three earned) on seven hits, striking out one and walking four. Trevor Stott opened the game for Newtown Nighthawks. The righty gave up six hits and two runs over five innings, striking out five and walking two.
Newtown Nighthawks collected nine hits in the game. J.T. Walsh, the number eight hitter for Newtown Nighthawks, led the way with two runs batted in. The third baseman went 1-for-3 on the day. Jack Carta, Ryan Schmidt, and Chris Moseman each collected two hits for Newtown Nighthawks. Newtown Nighthawks were sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Ryan Schmidt had the most chances in the field with six.
Chris Zottoli led Bunnell Varsity Bulldog with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The second baseman went 2-for-3 on the day. Dylan Costa and Chris Zottoli were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected two hits for Bunnell Varsity Bulldog. Chris Zottoli stole three bases. Bunnell Varsity Bulldog stole six bases in the game. Bunnell Varsity Bulldog turned one double play in the game.
Newtown Nighthawks will travel to Brookfield Varsity Bobcats for their next game on Friday.
