Farmer PUBLISHED: August 21, 2026 at 11:04 PM PDT | UPDATED: August 21, 2026 at 11:33 PM PDT It was first-game madness in the season opener between University City and Olympian High Schools. Lots of penalties, dropped balls and confusion. The visiting Centurions were the first to get their feet under themselves, outscoring the Eagles 17-0 in the second half to come away with a 38-13 non-league three-hour marathon victory Friday night. “The first half was a little tough going, you know the first-game jitters,” said University City junior quarterback Thomas Dietrich. “But with the guys we got, we started clicking in the second half.” It was Dietrich and the UC passing game that was clicking. The first-year starter completed 28 of 46 passes for 248 yards and three touchdowns. The Centurions (1-0) were without star running back DeShaun Hille, who a year ago rushed for 1,405 yards and 22 TDs. It was nothing serious, but the team was taking precautions. The first star of the game getting things going for UC was senior Tyler Hahn. His blocked punt and recovery in the end zone gave his team a quick 7-0 lead. “I saw them move some linemen out and saw only two guys in front of me, so I said to myself, ‘I’ve got this,’” said Hahn. “Then I just grabbed it.” Olympian (0-2) battled back when David Lafrancis picked off an errant pass over the middle by Dietrich and raced 25 yards for the tying score. The Centurions would get to halftime with a 21-13 lead on Dietrich’s first TD pass and a 3-yard TD run by Hahn. Olympian added their second score on a 9-yard run by Jeremiah Delgado Faucher. UC’s leading receiver on the night was sophomore DJ Ferguson, who caught 40 passes a year ago for 731 yards and seven TDs. He got his first two this year in the second half. His first one, a 15-yarder, was a special one. “That one was for my Auntie Tasha McGee who passed away this past summer,” said Ferguson. The Centurion defense played a big part in things, picking off five Olympian passes. Decklan Houston and Hesh Hertz each had a pair of interceptions, while Ferguson chipped in with another. “We stepped it up,” said Ferguson. “We balled out. We wanted to show all that hard work of the summer showed.” As a receiver, Hertz added seven receptions for 58 yards and a TD. Big 6-foot-7 tight end Tucker Wojdowski did damage over the middle, adding another six catches for 30 yards, many tough third-and-fourth downs. Talented kicker Owen Huntsman accounted for University City’s other points, driving home a 25-yarder in the fourth quarter.
