Raiders Fall to Saugerties in Section IX Class C Semifinal; Melious Reaches 500 Career Saves
Red Hook 3, Saugerties 17
Saugerties, NY — 28 May 2026 — The Red Hook Raiders' 2026 season came to an end Thursday afternoon as the second-seeded Saugerties Sawyers defeated the third-seeded Raiders, 17-3, in the Section IX Class C semifinal at Saugerties High School.
Despite the final score, the day featured a significant milestone for Red Hook senior goaltender Jack Melious, who recorded his 500th career save, becoming one of the program's most accomplished goalkeepers. Melious finished the game with 17 saves, repeatedly turning away quality Saugerties scoring opportunities and keeping the Raiders competitive throughout stretches of the contest.
Saugerties controlled possession from the opening faceoff, winning 20 of 22 draws and holding a 41-22 advantage in ground balls. The Sawyers converted that possession advantage into a balanced offensive attack, led by L. Macdougall with seven points (4 goals, 3 assists), Mason Gamache with six points (4 goals, 2 assists), and Nathan Dippel with five points (2 goals, 3 assists).
Red Hook's offense generated 15 shots and was led by goals from Lucas Flores, John Macri, and Chris Macri. Flores also contributed two ground balls and two caused turnovers, while Quinn Boyd led the Raiders with four ground balls.
The Raiders battled throughout the game despite facing constant pressure from Saugerties' faceoff and transition game. Red Hook recorded 22 ground balls and received strong defensive efforts from Boyd, Harrison Brown, Brent Macri, and KC O'Connor.
Melious' milestone highlighted an outstanding four-year varsity career in goal. Beyond his 500th career save, the senior captain provided leadership and stability for a Raiders program that qualified for the Section IX playoffs and advanced to the Class C semifinal.
Red Hook concludes the 2026 season with a postseason appearance and a veteran senior class that helped lead the program both on and off the field. The Raiders graduate seniors Harrison Brown, Quinn Boyd, Chris Macri, Chase Wilbur, John Carlo Macri, Danny Cashen, and Jack Melious, whose contributions helped continue the tradition of Red Hook lacrosse.
Saugerties advances to the Section IX Class C Championship game, while Red Hook closes the season with valuable experience returning throughout its underclassmen-filled roster and a foundation to build upon heading into 2027.
