San Diego, CA — Congratulations to the Carlsbad Lancers on capturing the 2026 CIF San Diego Section Division 2 Championship! Behind a dominant three-hit shutout from junior pitcher Sophia Tillis, Carlsbad defeated Scripps Ranch 3-0 to claim the title. The result came thanks to Sofia Tillis's shutout, as she gave up just two hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kendall Rivera, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Gabriela Nevarez, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. The championship is the program’s fifth CIF section title and their first since 2017. Congratulations to the players, coaches, families, and the entire Carlsbad community on bringing another championship back to North County. An incredible season and a true team effort from start to finish. Special congratulations to Kelly for earning the Sportsmanship Award for her outstanding character and leadership.
