Saints Dominate South Side 37-14, Finish Regular Season 8-1
Bishop Dwenger 37, South Side 14
Fort Wayne, IN — The Bishop Dwenger Saints closed out the 2026 regular season in dominant fashion Friday night, defeating South Side 37-14 behind an explosive offensive performance and another strong defensive effort. The Saints scored 30 unanswered points in the first half, received two touchdowns from Drew O’Neil and continued their late-season momentum, finishing the regular season with an impressive 8-1 record.
Dwenger wasted little time establishing control of the matchup. The Saints’ offense found its rhythm early, moving the football and putting pressure on the South Side defense. With 3:15 remaining in the opening quarter, Max Jordan powered his way into the end zone for a rushing touchdown, giving Dwenger its first points of the night. The extra point was successful, putting the Saints ahead 7-0.
The Saints weren’t finished. With just two seconds remaining in the first quarter, Jeremy Haynes hauled in a touchdown reception, extending Dwenger’s advantage. A successful two-point conversion pushed the lead to 15-0, giving the Saints complete control after the opening 12 minutes.
Dwenger continued its offensive dominance in the second quarter, with the rushing attack once again proving difficult to stop. With 3:25 remaining before halftime, Drew O’Neil broke through for a rushing touchdown, extending the Saints’ advantage to 22-0 following the successful extra point.
But O’Neil wasn’t done making an impact.
On the final play of the first half, O’Neil found the end zone again, this time on a touchdown reception, giving him his second score of the quarter. Dwenger successfully converted the two-point attempt, sending the Saints into the locker room with a commanding 30-0 halftime advantage.
The first-half performance showcased the versatility of Dwenger’s offense. Jordan and O’Neil provided the physical rushing attack, while Haynes and O’Neil delivered through the passing game. The Saints found the end zone four times before halftime, demonstrating their ability to move the football both on the ground and through the air.
South Side finally broke through in the third quarter when Jayvon Irby hauled in a touchdown reception with 8:57 remaining, cutting Dwenger’s advantage to 30-7. However, the Saints maintained control of the contest, continuing to rely on their offensive balance and defensive discipline.
Early in the fourth quarter, Dwenger added to its advantage once again. With 10:31 remaining, the Saints put another seven points on the scoreboard, extending their lead to 37-7 and effectively putting the game out of reach. The scoring play was not identified in the available game summary, but it provided another example of Dwenger’s ability to capitalize offensively throughout the night.
South Side added a late touchdown pass with 24 seconds remaining, bringing the final score to 37-14. By that point, the Saints had already secured another convincing victory and their fifth consecutive win.
The Saints’ offensive production was impressive from start to finish. Drew O’Neil led the scoring effort with two touchdowns, contributing both on the ground and through the air. Max Jordan added another rushing score, while Jeremy Haynes found the end zone on a touchdown reception. Dwenger’s ability to spread the football around and involve multiple playmakers proved to be a major factor in the victory.
The offensive line also played an important role in the Saints’ success. Dwenger consistently created opportunities for its running backs and gave the offense the ability to establish control early. The Saints’ physicality helped them build a four-touchdown advantage before halftime, putting South Side in a difficult position for the remainder of the contest.
Defensively, Dwenger continued to demonstrate the toughness that has defined its late-season run. The Saints kept South Side scoreless throughout the entire first half and allowed just two touchdowns in the contest. That defensive effort gave Dwenger’s offense opportunities to build its lead while preventing the Archers from generating any sustained momentum.
The victory capped an impressive regular season for a Bishop Dwenger program that has continued to improve throughout the fall. After suffering their lone defeat against Carroll earlier in the season, the Saints responded with five consecutive victories, defeating Northrop, Bishop Luers, Snider and South Side along the way.
With an 8-1 regular-season record, the Saints now turn their attention to the Class 4A state tournament. Dwenger will travel to face North Side on Friday, October 23, in the opening round of sectional play, looking to carry its momentum into the postseason.
Friday night’s victory was another statement performance from a Saints team playing some of its best football at the right time. With five touchdowns, a dominant first half and contributions from multiple offensive playmakers, Bishop Dwenger closed out the regular season with a convincing 37-14 victory over South Side.
