Laguna Beach, CA — LBHS football began their 2026 season on August 21 at home with a team from the vaunted Alpha League, the Yorba Linda Mustangs Yorba Linda’s offensive line and strong running game propelled them to an early lead of 21-0 before the Breakers were able to put a drive together. Late in the second quarter Laguna put together a sustained drive that concluded with a Jack Hurst pass to Brady Stringham for Laguna‘s first touchdown of the season. After an outstanding defensive stand, Laguna got the ball back with a little more than three minutes to go in the first half. On third down with the ball on the Laguna 35 yard line Jack Hurst threw the ball toward the end zone where Garret Byerly made a spectacular catch. Brady Stringham added his second point after of the game cutting the deficit to 14-21 at halftime. Yorba Linda scored again on their first possession of the second half increasing their advantage to 14 points again. The teams exchanged punts and on Laguna’s next possession, Jack Hurst threw a flare pass to Charlie Christian, who ran it into the end zone from 12 yards out. Laguna had a hard time controlling Yorba Linda’s ground attack and Yorba Linda also was able to find open receivers downfield when they needed to. The Mustangs scored one more time in the fourth period to make the final score Yorba Linda 34, Laguna Beach 21. It was a hard fought battle against a very well coached and strong team, but the Breakers showed much resolve and tenacity to fight till the final gun.
